WateReuse Celebrates Year of Achievement

Date: November 07, 2016

WateReuse is celebrating a year of tremendous achievement. At the federal and state levels, WateReuse has successfully advocated for laws, policy and funding that advance recycled water. And with an audience of more than 60 million ratepayers, our utility members have used interactive tools and educational material developed by WateReuse to increase public acceptance according to surveys in key regions.

Some of the highlights from 2016 include:

  • Our advocacy efforts helped get the Water Resources Development Act passed by both chambers of the U.S. Congress this year and will likely be law by the end of the year.
  • WateReuse California successfully advocated for the creation of criteria for direct potable reuse. Both WateReuse Arizona and WateReuse Colorado obtained significant funding to advance potable reuse locally.
  • For the third year in a row, our national Symposium grew in size and scope. We welcomed more than 530 water professionals from 32 states, the District of Columbia, and nine different countries to this extraordinary event.
  • Our partnership with the Water Environment & Reuse Foundation is stronger than ever and offers access to an expanded portfolio of research.
  • New networking opportunities, including the Job Bank and Member Directory, came online.
  • The first ever Potable Reuse Summit introduced this emerging option to a new audience of utilities and regulators in Oklahoma.
