Florida Senate Bill 64 – Compliance Planning and Incorporating Non-Beneficial Discharges into your Water Supply Portfolio

In the past, Florida utilities were investigating methods to dispose of excess reclaimed water. Water supply planning has since evolved to operate collaboratively across “silos” of water, wastewater, reclaimed water, and stormwater.

Fast forward to today, Senate Bill 64 (SB 64) is propelling utilities to explore innovative and non-traditional projects to meet the requirement to eliminate non-beneficial surface water discharges. There is a paradigm shift in thinking about reclaimed water as a resource vital to meeting increasing water supply demands across the state.

In this webinar, we will hear from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) on their analysis of SB 64 compliance plans submitted by utilities in the state, followed by individual plans of several utilities from different regions of the state, and the impact of regional drivers on their respective plans. Attendees will learn about the following:

  • SB 64 contents and an analysis from FDEP
  • Alternative water supply project options
  • Regional challenges in fulfilling compliance plans

Moderator:

Jeff Greenwell, Environmental Services Manager, Hillsborough County

Speakers:

  • Sydney Cummings, Senior Program Analyst, Florida Department of Environmental Protection
  • Megan Ross, Director of Utilities, Pinellas County
  • Robert Zammataro, Director of Water Planning and Development, JEA
  • 4th Speaker TBD
