Reclaiming ROC: Assessment of Advanced Membrane and Non-Membrane Technologies to Manage Reverse Osmosis Concentrate

Reclaiming ROC: Assessment of Advanced Membrane and Non-Membrane Technologies to Manage Reverse Osmosis Concentrate
Reverse osmosis (RO) is often used to produce potable water but generates a waste stream that is difficult and costly to manage. Technologies that can minimize RO concentrate (ROC) volume for disposal while simultaneously producing reusable water are needed. In this presentation, we examine how the variable quality of ROC and the presence of foulants in ROC both complicate its reuse. We then discuss the prospects of emerging technologies for ROC treatment.
