WateReuse Participates in International Symposium on Potable Reuse

Date: January 29, 2018

WateReuse Executive Director Patricia Sinicropi moderated a panel discussion on Potable Reuse: Resource Regulation and Risk during the International Symposium on Potable Reuse, which took place in Austin last week. The panelists discussed how regulatory policy addressing potable reuse systems should be driven by good science, risk mitigation and public confidence in their water supply. The panel was followed by a robust audience discussion on a variety of policy and science-related issues such as whether additional federal regulation is necessary and whether science is producing the necessary information for water professionals to ensure protection of public health.

The panelists included Dr. Norman Neumann, Professor and Program Director for Environmental Health in the School for Public Health at the University of Alberta, Canada; Ms. L’Oreal Stepney, Deputy Director for the Office of Water for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality; and Greg Wetterau, Vice President with CDM Smith. Wetterau replaced Peter Grevatt, Director of the Office of Groundwater and Drinking Water for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) who was unable to attend due to the Federal Government shutdown. Wetterau presented information about EPA’s recently released Potable Reuse Compendium for which he was project manager on behalf of CDMSmith. The Symposium was hosted by the American WaterWorks Association in partnership with the WateReuse Association and other water associations.
