The WateReuse Association celebrates the allocation of $310 million in funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) for the planning, design, and construction of water reuse projects across the country. This funding is the first of $550 million made available by the IIJA for the Title XVI Water Reuse Grants Program, and is nearly five times larger than the average annual investment in the program up until this point.

WateReuse Association led the advocacy campaign that secured $1 billion for western water recycling as part of the IIJA and has supported the United States Department of the Interior (DOI) and other government agencies in disseminating these funds to construct essential water reuse projects. DOI estimates that the 25 selected projects will increase annual capacity by approximately 213,000 acre-feet of water, supporting the needs of more than 850,000 people per year.

“Investment in water reuse is already generating economic, environmental, and public health dividends around the country and these new federal investments will help more communities secure their water future” said WateReuse Association’s Executive Director Patricia Sinicropi, “we congratulate the 21 WateReuse Association members whose projects are supported by this round of funding.”

See the Bureau of Reclamation Press Release for more information and the full list of recipients.
