Water Week 2026: Invest in Water, Invest in America

Welcome to Water Week. This week, WateReuse members across the United States are encouraged to raise your voices to support investment in water infrastructure. Modernizing our water infrastructure protects national security, creates jobs, and preserves our natural resources.

Many of our members will join us in Washington, DC for the Water Policy Fly-In tomorrow, meeting elected and administration officials in person. But whether you’re calling your congressperson or heading to their office, level up your talking points with the unified message document developed by WateReuse and our seventeen association partners. Among our top priorities is maintaining federal investments in key programs like State Revolving Funds, Title XVI Grants, the Pilot Program for Alternatives Water Source Grants, and more. At the same time, WateReuse members will be advocating for a new Investment Tax Credit for industries using recycled water (H.R. 2940). You can find social media posts, fact sheets, the Fly-In agenda, and much more at the Water Week webpage.

New FEMA Funding Opportunity Can Support Reuse Projects

On March 26, FEMA issued a notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) under the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program for fiscal years 2024 and 2025. This funding opportunity makes $1 billion in federal disaster preparedness available to states, local governments, territories, and tribal nations, including for alternative water supply projects such as water recycling. BRIC funds infrastructure resilience projects, prioritizing projects that are ready for construction, and incentivizing the adoption of the latest hazard-resistant building codes.

Please note that previous applications submitted for the Fiscal Year 2024 BRIC funding opportunity will not be reviewed. FEMA is asking all applicants to review, update, and resubmit in accordance with the new funding opportunity guidelines. Applications are due July 23, 2026, although drinking water systems will need to coordinate their submission with the designated state agency, typically the homeland security or emergency management agency, which will have earlier deadlines.

It will serve as a study guide for a new certificate program that is currently under development by Water Professionals International (WPI).
