FL: Hillsborough County and Garney Break Ground on New One Water & South Wastewater Conveyance and Treatment Project

Last month, WateReuse members Garney Construction and Hillsborough County Public Utilities Department broke ground on a new One Water – South Wastewater Conveyance and Treatment Project in Tampa. The project is being delivered through a collaborative design-build process with WateReuse member Hazen & Sawyer and includes a One Water Campus Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility, a lift station, and over 20 miles of wastewater and reclaimed water pipelines. Once completed, the facility will have a 24-million-gallon-per-day capacity, with the potential to expand to 30 million gallons per day. The full project is expected to come online in 2030.

CA: San Jose Water Begins Direct Potable Reuse Pilot

Last month, San Jose Water announced its launch of a $3 million direct potable reuse pilot with technical guidance and support from WateReuse member San Francisco Public Utilities Department and South Bay Water Recycling. The pilot consists of a mobile purification unit which will serve as a demonstration facility, helping the utility test system performance and engage the public. San Jose Water hopes to leverage the study results and community feedback for an eventual full-scale conversion. “We are engaging with local agencies, as well as community stakeholders, to share knowledge and explore how recycled water purification can strengthen water reliability while protecting affordability,” said President of San Jose Water Tanya Moniz-Witten.

Veolia and Amazon to Partner on AI-Assisted Data Center Reuse Facility in Mississippi

Last week, WateReuse members Veolia and Amazon announced a partnership to build water reuse infrastructure for one of the tech company’s data centers in Mississippi. Veolia will implement AI-integrated water treatment systems which will reuse effluent from municipal treatment plants in the area to cool the data center. The project is estimated to reuse more than 83 million gallons of potable water annually and is projected to become operational in 2027. "We are delighted to collaborate with Amazon to secure its water needs in Mississippi while protecting the local community's resources — this is environmental security in action. By combining Veolia’s water expertise with Amazon’s AI technologies, we’re transforming data centers into engines of innovation for sustainability,” said Veolia CEO Estelle Brachlianoff.
