Nominate a Utility of the Future!

Deadline: April 5, 2024

Applications are now being accepted for the 2024 Utility of the Future Today (UotFT) Recognition Program. Celebrating the nation’s water systems for their efforts to transform their operations through innovation and technology, UotFT honors water resource recovery facilities for water recycling, community engagement, watershed stewardship, and resource recovery. The recognition program is a collaborative effort of the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA), the Water Environment Federation (WEF), The Water Research Foundation (WRF), the WateReuse Association, and the U.S. Water Alliance with support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

WateReuse Association elevates exemplary efforts in water reuse through our recognition programs. WateReuse works with partner associations to administer the Utility of the Future recognition program and the Global Industrial Water Reuse Champions Award, and is also proud to present the Annual WateReuse Awards for Excellence at the Annual WateReuse Symposium.

WateReuse Urges Robust Funding for Water Recycling Programs in FY 2024

The WateReuse Association has been working for the past year to secure funding for key water recycling programs in fiscal year (FY) 2024. The FY 2024 appropriations cycle began in late February 2023 and has lingered into 2024 as Congress struggles to reach a deal on a final package. Instead, Congress has passed a series of funding extensions known as continuing resolutions (CR), the most recent of which expires early next month. Congress must finalize a full FY 2024 funding package by then or be faced with yet another CR. In anticipation of a deal being reached in the next several weeks, WateReuse joined two letters last week delivered to top appropriators in the House and Senate. The first letter urges Congress to provide full funding for the Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Programs. The second letter covers a set of top priorities for the water sector, including funding for the Pilot Program for Alternative Water Source Grants, which would become the first nationwide program dedicated to advancing water recycling and other alternative water source systems. For a breakdown of where funding levels stand in the House and Senate appropriations bills, revisit our detailed appropriations chart.

Florida Webcast: Exploring Funding Opportunities for Reuse

February 27, 2024

Free to WateReuse Members

As pressure continues to build on our water resources and inflation continues to climb there is a need to further implement the cost-effective use of recycled water. In Florida, regulations such as the state's SB 64 requirement for beneficial reuse, watershed nutrient limits, elimination of ocean outfalls, and limitations on our traditional sources of drinking water are driving our industry to implement solutions quickly that are more expensive than traditional reclaimed water projects. This has driven a demand on State and Federal agency funding. Join our expert panel to learn about a multitude of available funding sources available to municipalities east of the Mississippi. Topics include the application process and what to expect when awarded.
