WateReuse is working with PepsiCo, GHD, and others to develop a white paper outlining the challenges and solutions to implementing water reuse in food and beverage manufacturing.

The Industrial Water Reuse Champions award was created in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Veolia, University of Pennsylvania Water Center, and International Desalination Association. The award honors companies and businesses that demonstrate leadership in water recycling. Nominations are open until September 15. This year, companies are eligible worldwide, not just in the United States. The winners will be announced in early October 2023 at the Chamber of Commerce Sustainable Business Meeting. Nominate a champion today.

On August 23, WateReuse Association convened with doctors, utilities, and consultants to kick off a new action engaging medical and public health professionals about water reuse. The action partners will work to bolster the knowledge and trust of the medical community in water recycling and its potential. The partners will create communications and outreach materials, tools, and webinars. In focusing on the medical and public health communities, the action team hopes to increase public acceptance, support, and local advocacy for water reuse.

The WateReuse Association and WateReuse California welcome The Diablo Country Club. The Diablo Country Club is a private, member-owned golf and country club located in Diablo, California. It was established in 1914 and has a rich history as one of the oldest country clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2019, the club announced a $31 million investment to revitalize facilities and reduce overall water usage. As part of the plan, the club is working with WateReuse members Central Contra Costa Sanitary District and East Bay Municipal Utility District to develop a small water treatment plant to produce recycled water for irrigation.

Water has been reused for agricultural irrigation in Texas since the 1800s, and for industrial uses since the 1940s and 1950s in Odessa, Big Spring, and Amarillo. Today, reclaimed water is used for a wide range of purposes including power plant cooling, commercial and municipal irrigation, river and stream flow enhancement, natural gas and oil field production, augmentation of drinking water supplies, and more.

U.S. EPA has proposed the first-ever National Primary Drinking Water Regulation to limit six PFAS chemicals and is also proposing to designate both PFOA and PFOS as “hazardous substances” under CERCLA, commonly known as Superfund.
