2023 WateReuse Symposium:
Reimagining Water Together

There is still time to secure a place on the podium during the 2023 WateReuse Symposium taking place March 5-8, 2023, in Atlanta, GA in collaboration with the Water Research Foundation. You can propose a 60-minute panel, a 30-minute presentation, or a research poster. Submit your research, expertise, or advice, or team up with your colleagues, partners, and community to tell your water reuse story. The Call for Presentations lists topics including reuse in small or underrepresented communities, implications of PFAS in reuse, industrial reuse, and many more. The Annual WateReuse Symposium is the premier conference on water recycling — attracting more than 800 water professionals globally for knowledge-sharing, networking, and intriguing discussions.

Water World interviewed the EPA’s Rabia Chaudhry about the progress of the National Water Reuse Action Plan, including eight actions completed as of the last quarter. Chaudhry especially highlighted WRAP Action 8.5: Engagement with Disadvantaged and Rural Communities on Water Reuse. “We’re working with rural communities and small communities,” said Chaudhry, “to provide them with opportunities for how to incorporate reuse that is appropriate for really small water systems, that maybe have challenges with compliance.” Watch the interview.

The Hawaii State Department of Health joins WateReuse Association as the state’s recycled water regulator. Water reuse in Hawaii is growing in response to population growth, limited potable water resources, and wastewater disposal challenges.

Taza Development Corp. joins WateReuse Association as one of the largest First Nation development projects in North America. The real estate development on 1,200 acres of Tsuut’ina land in Alberta, Canada is seeking to maximize water reuse in their new development.

The government of Mongolia, with funding support from the United States Government’s Millennium Challenge Corporation, broke ground last week on a water recycling project that will increase potable water supply in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar by 80 percent. The project includes advanced water purification to improve potable water quality as well as a dedicated water recycling plant for industrial use. Read more.

WateReuse Association recently published a new education material: the Profile in Onsite Reuse. As part of our Profiles in Reuse series, the two-page fact sheet explains onsite reuse in an approachable way that can be shared with members of the public, decision-makers, and other stakeholders. The Profile highlights the many benefits of onsite reuse including water supply, resilience, environmental protection, and cost savings. It also includes five brief case studies about onsite reuse projects in every region of the United States.

California’s Santa Clara Medical Association published a special issue dedicated to water, recycled water, and potable reuse from a medical perspective. The publication includes an article on water supply as a public health concern, and another specifically on water reuse with contributions from WateReuse members Medi Sinaki of Valley Water and Eric Rosenblum with Envirospectives. Both articles highlight the role that medical professionals can play in explaining water purification, safety, and quality to their patients.
