In 2021, the Florida state legislature passed SB 64, a piece of ambitious legislation directing water utilities to eliminate all non-beneficial surface water discharges by the year 2032. Water reuse will be essential to this statewide transformation. The 37th Annual WateReuse Symposium will feature a two-part panel discussion on how Florida utilities are responding. The session, moderated by WateReuse Florida President and Dewberry’s Florida Water Market Segment Leader Robert Beltran, will start with an overview of the Florida legislation process and its impact on water reuse. Water reuse practitioners involved in the Florida Potable Reuse Commission will discuss the direction of Florida's potable reuse legislation and its broader implications. This will be followed by a panel of utilities exploring how they plan to reach compliance under SB 64. You will hear directly from Florida utilities navigating the planning and approval process, and how each is developing unique alternatives and plans for compliance.
