Symptoms: Sports field exhibits severe thinning and other damage.

Diagnosis: Excessive foot traffic has injured grass and has caused soil compaction.

Solutions: Reduce human traffic, especially when the soil is wet. Aerate the soil with soil-coring equipment.

Diagnosis: The thinning turf suffered from compaction and lack of soil aeration.

Solutions: Aerating the soil by running a soil-coring machine over it may help solve the problem. Limiting activities that lead to compaction may be necessary, too.

Diagnosis: Soil has suffered compaction, resulting in a decrease in its permeability to water. The cause was excessive traffic.

Solutions: Limit traffic at this site. Aerate the soil by running a soil corer over the site.
