Management option: Modify irrigation method

When landscape plants differ widely in their ET capacity, they should be irrigated separately. For instance, trees planted within a fairway on a golf course would have higher ET than the turfgrass. Watering those trees with the same irrigation system as for turf results in under-watering of the trees or over-watering of the turfgrass. Under-watering of trees can lead to poor performance in two ways: either because of insufficient soil water, or because LF is insufficient to control soil salinity. In extreme cases, it may become necessary to install separate irrigation lines and to set up separate irrigation schedules for the turfgrasses versus the trees. Another option is to install bubblers on the same line used for sprinkling turf. The bubblers should be adjusted to provide application rates adequate to meet the ET demands of the trees.
