Texas Produced Water Consortium

TXPWC was established in 2021 by Senate Bill 601 to bring together information and resources to study the economics and technologies related to beneficial uses of produced water, including environmental and public health considerations. Texas Tech University in coordination with the Government Agency Advisory Council and the Stakeholder Advisory Council serve as administrative oversight. TXPWC will develop an economic model for using produced water in a way that is efficient and protects public health and the environment, provide guidance for establishing produced water permitting and testing standards, and suggest changes to law and administrative rules to better enable the use of produced water.

WRTX COMMITTEE CONNECTION

Get engaged with our work and share ideas with colleagues by joining a committee! Each committee works on projects related to the committee topic, gives feedback on WRTX goals and objectives, and receives relevant updates during committee meetings.

WateReuse Texas has four standing committees:

  • Outreach Committee (meets bi-monthly)
  • Policy Committee (meets quarterly when not in session)
  • Research Committee (meets bi-monthly)
  • Events Committee (meets monthly and more often in August)

*All meetings are virtual unless noted otherwise, and times are in the Central time zone.

These committees are designed to allow member organizations a direct way to engage in their most related reuse field. Any individual employed by a WRTX member is eligible to join. If you are interested in joining any of these committees, please contact Noelle George.

Xylem Report Advocates Reuse as a Solution to Projected Increase in AI Water Demand

WateReuse Texas member Xylem released a report in collaboration with Global Water Intelligence finding that water demand across the AI value chain is set to increase by 129% by 2050, proposing water reuse as a solution to offset growing demand. The report projects that the accelerated infrastructure buildout driven by surging investment in AI will drive 30 trillion liters of water demand annually across power generation, semiconductor fabrication, and data center expansion. “AI is placing new demands on water supplies, but many of the tools needed to address the challenge already exist,” said Xylem CEO and President Matthew Pine. “Advanced treatment technologies, for example, allow us to recycle water rather than waste it.”

Corpus Christi City Council Approves 30-Year Agreement to Supply Recycled Water to Valero Refinery

The Corpus Christi City Council recently approved a 30-year agreement with Valero to supply up to 8 million gallons per day of recycled water from Greenwood Wastewater Treatment Plant to Valero’s refinery. The agreement will be rolled out in phases, with the city initially supplying 3 million gallons per day until necessary infrastructure upgrades are complete. Valero will contribute to daily operating costs as well as special treatment processes, chemicals, and electricity. “By giving industries reclaimed water instead of fresh, we take pressure off the whole system," Nicholas Winkelmann, Corpus Christi Water interim COO, told KRIS 6 News.
