WateReuse celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Bureau of Reclamation’s Title XVI Water Reclamation and Reuse Program. Throughout the program’s history Reclamation has allocated more than $1.1 billion in federal funding for the design and construction of water recycling projects in the West, providing enough water for more than 2.3 million people in 2021. "Over the past 30 years, Reclamation and our partners have shown how we can turn currently unusable water sources into a new, sustainable water source that is less vulnerable to drought and climate change. Water recycling helps provide water to grow crops, sustain wildlife and the environment, and, in turn, meet our mission of providing clean and reliable water,” said Camille Calimlim Touton, Reclamation Commissioner. Over the years, WateReuse has been the leading advocate for annual funding for the Title XVI program, securing roughly $65 million for the program each year. We also successfully led the effort to secure a $550 billion investment in the Title XVI program as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA). Looking towards the future, Reclamation is working to allocate the historic $1 billion in funding from the IIJA through the Title XVI program and the newly created Large-Scale Water Recycling Projects Competitive Grants Program. WateReuse expects Reclamation to release important guidance on the Large-Scale Projects Program in the coming days. Read more. |
