Constituent

Sometimes, when describing the water quality of a pond, lake, or river, or of irrigation water available from a pipeline or reservoir, water scientists refer to the constituents of the water. There's nothing mysterious about that term. It merely refers to the constituent elements or materials present in the water — such things as dissolved mineral salts or suspended particles.
