Modules:

Design or redesign a landscape

Estimate the water needs of landscape plants

Determining a factor for landscape plants other than turfgrass, part 2: Observation-based approach

Bringing it all together: Calculate KL

Once you've assigned a species factor (KS), a vegetative density factor (KD), and a microclimate factor (KMC), you can calculate the plant adjustment factor (KL) with the equation previously mentioned:

  • The adjustment factor for landscape plants other than turfgrasses is equal to the species factor multiplied by the vegetative density factor and the microclimate factor
  • Or: KL = KS × KD × KMC
  • where KS is the species factor, KD is the vegetative density factor, and KMC is an appropriate microclimate adjustment factor
