Determining a factor for landscape plants other than turfgrass, part 2: Observation-based approach

An alternate approach is available for deriving a plant adjustment factor (KL) for plants other than turfgrasses. It is based on the observations of horticulturists and involves the following:

  • The adjustment factor for landscape plants other than turfgrasses is equal to the species factor multiplied by the vegetative density factor and the microclimate factor
  • Or: KL = KS × KD × KMC
  • where KS is the species factor, KD is the vegetative density factor, and KMC is an appropriate microclimate adjustment factor
