Certain species are boron-tolerant. That’s been determined to be true for Quercus agrifolia (coast live oak).

Sensitivity of plants to specific ions

Some plants are relatively tolerant of total salinity, yet still sensitive to certain chemical ions or elements. The constituents of concern usually are chloride ion, sodium ion, and boron.
