Bureau of Reclamation Announces Title XVI Water Reuse During Nevada Visit

Last week, the Bureau of Reclamation announced FY 2023 awards for the Title XVI Water Reuse Grants Program and Desalination and Water Purification Construction Grants Program. Acting Deputy Secretary of the Interior Laura Daniel-Davis made the announcement after a tour of the Truckee Meadows Water Authority, which is receiving $30 million to enhance water reclamation infrastructure at the Advanced Purified Water Facility. The $142 million investment in FY 2023 is part of a five-year, $800 million investment provided for Title XVI and desalination projects by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021. WateReuse helped secure this funding in the infrastructure package and has been working closely with the Bureau of Reclamation on its implementation. We congratulate all 10 grant recipients, 8 of which are WateReuse members. Of the $142 million provided by Reclamation, $85 million will go to six water recycling projects in Hawaii, California, Texas, Kansas, and Nevada. In total, the selected projects will provide roughly 40,000 acre-feet per year of recycled water.

Engineering News Record Tackles Potable Reuse Drivers and Carbon-Based Advanced Treatment

A recent Engineering News Record story explored drivers, costs, and benefits of potable reuse in the United States. The article quoted and mentioned numerous WateReuse members, including EPWater, Orange County Water District, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, LASAN, City of San Diego, Aurora Water, Jacobs, PCL Construction, Carollo Engineers, and Stantec. “All treatment of water is starting to get more and more expensive, so the difference in paying for a reuse system versus just regular treatment is getting smaller,” said Richard Hewitt, Vice President and District Manager for PCL Construction. Brenley McKenna, Managing Director of WateReuse California, shared her thoughts on the surge of potable reuse projects in California, saying that it’s “unlike anything we’ve seen before.”

Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean. A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia.
